6 Fresh Takes On Traditional Bridal Hairstyles

Your wedding hair doesn’t have to be strict with every strand of hair scraped back and sprayed into a solid and crispy mass of curls piled high on the head for you to look bridal. Modern brides are opting for soft, fresh and effortless looks, whether it’s an updo or down hairstyle.
I have teamed up with Shahnaz Walford a.k.a. The Make-Up Girl, a bridal hair and make-up artist, to showcase six modern bridal hairstyles which continue to retain the elegance and sophistication required for a bridal hairstyle, but are relaxed and given a new lease of life with accessories to suit every wedding theme and dress style.

STYLE 1

The first look is based on a simple and feminine all down curly hairstyle. The hair has been curled using a conical curling wand and set with a light flexible hairspray to fix the curls while letting them breathe and move freely at the same time. The look has been accessorized using a stylish pastel satin hair band with a gorgeous ivory silk rose to add a trendy soft boho twist. This relaxed style is perfect for a bride going for an outdoor bohemian or country barn themed wedding.

STYLE 2

The second look is a fresh version of the traditional half up style perfect for a spring or summer wedding. This romantic half up style is a great option for brides who want to combine the elegance of hair up with the chic playfulness of hair down – tumbling curls covering the shoulders are perfect for those who don’t want to have too much skin on display, almost acting as a veil. The hair has been curled with a curling wand and few sections have been pinned with a delicate pearl hair clip for a dreamy look.

STYLE 3

This effortless updo is full of texture and detail yet it looks enchanting with a few tumbling strands framing the face for added softness. When you think updo, you think tight and formal, but not with this regal hairstyle, where we have added a little playfulness with a feather and pearl hair clip. This timeless hairstyle says: “Yes, I am the bride, I’m sophisticated and elegant, but I am also fun and easy-going”.

STYLE 4

The low side bun is beautiful and fun, but has the potential to be serious if needed. Strands can be teased out to create more drama and romance without it looking as if they have fallen out. Any number of hair accessories can adorn this hairstyle and it will look chic and glamorous, but we have chosen a pearl comb placed high up into the front of the style to add an intriguing highlight. A veil can also be incorporated into this style with ease.

STYLE 5

A whimsical updo is a bold and attention grabbing hairstyle for a unique bride at the forefront of fashion. Combine it with an elegantly simple wedding dress and let your hair do the talking for you. The hair has been backcombed to add volume and then pinned high on to the head allowing strands to break free and tumble to frame the face. We used an eye-catching chiffon flower to compliment this style and complete the look.

STYLE 6

Take your statement updo to the max! With this designer butterfly and flower fascinator we have transformed an already bold look into a fashion statement. The hair has been curled and backcombed to create extreme volume, then pinned in sections to create this fairytale look. Perfect for a bride seeking a grand entrance!
